It’s actually crazy how much You’re Losing Me feels like it could be ON Lover to me. Even the production imo feels like it could fit somewhere in there. It’s giving Afterglow but we didn’t make up this time.

She referred to Rep as a “bait and switch” album but I honestly think it’s Lover lol. The concept is love, hearts, purple pink sky, daylight… but a lot of those songs are downright sad or insecure or anxious. I know that’s sometimes how relationships feel, with both highs and lows, but Lover REALLY drove home those lows. (Thinking about it now… Rep feels more like the sweet new love album, while Lover covers more of the shakiness 🤔).

But You’re Losing Me could’ve been slapped right in the middle of Lover and I don’t even think I would’ve noticed it as anything different.

YESSSS!!! Thank you!!! People referring to Lover as “bubblegum happy pop” is my villain origin story. Have you guys listened to the lyrics at all? Even in “happy” songs such as ITHK and Lover and Paper Rings she can’t help but throw a reminder in there that love is precarious and their relationship isn’t perfect and that she’s anxious (see: I’m with you even if it makes me blue / I’m highly suspicious that everyone who sees you wants you / I think he knows he better lock it down or I won’t stick around).

In an interview before its release she even said something along the lines of “there are a lot of sad songs in there but don’t feel bad for me!”, and people still had the courage to call it a “superficial and happy” album for four years. That album is full of anxiety and sadness and fear in every song and it hurts.

She’s sick for putting these two lines right next to each other. She’s the best thing at the party but she wouldn’t marry herself either.

the way that “you’re losing me” starts off slow and composed and oh im just sitting here thinking but as it progresses it gets more hysterical and desperate and all over the place and she’s going from trying to prove she’s worth it and the best thing at the party to empathizing with him “i wouldn’t marry me either” to try and convince him to fight and to do something and then the slow realization in the end as the song calms down again that he’s made a decision and that’s just it
